  Access to water is still a mirage in some regions of the globe
Although access to water increased between 1990 and 2004, it is still a resource that is unequally distributed in global terms. Around half the population has no access to water in the countries with low levels of development.
  Basic needs are unequally satisfied worldwide
An indicator produced by the NGO, Social Watch, shows deep asymmetry between levels of basic welfare in the countries of the northern and southern hemispheres. Forecasts point to a slow narrowing of the gap between satisfaction of basic needs in the worst classified countries and "satisfactory" levels of development.
